Reflecting Heads
Here, Sköld uses reflection to question what is real in a street photograph. The crowd, blurred and spectral, contrasts the calm figure in the centre — perhaps unaware of the invisible audience watching her through the pane. The composition thrives on this tension: order and chaos, focus and dissolve, presence and disappearance.
The image recalls the reflective experiments of Saul Leiter using black and white, the urban lyricism of Vivian Maier, and the layered human theatre of Alex Webb and Trent Parke — all artists who have used reflection not merely as an optical trick, but as a metaphor for the multiplicity of city life.
It’s a photograph that resists a single reading — instead, it invites the viewer to linger, to look again, and to realize that what’s “outside” and what’s “inside” are often the same scene, just refracted through glass.
